The performance of exhausted coffee ground in removing copper (II) ions from the aqueous solution was explored. The exhausted coffee ground was treated with formaldehyde solution under acidic condition. The adsorption studies were carried out in batch experiments and the affecting parameters like initial pH, contact time and initial concentration of copper (II) ions were investigated. Adsorption of copper (II) ions on the treated exhausted coffee ground reached it equilibrium at 120 min with the optimum adsorption pH value of 5.0. The adsorption equilibrium data were fitted with Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models in which Langmuir model was best fitted to the experimental data. The adsorption kinetics data were analyzed with pseudo first- and second-order kinetic models. The adsorption process was found to follow second-order reaction.
